About E.DIS Netz
E.DIS Netz GmbH, one of Germany’s largest regional energy network operators, manages a power grid of approximately 82,500 kilometers, covering an area of 35,500 square kilometers across Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Fabian Silbe is a power purchaser responsible for the balancing group management at E.DIS. His tasks include managing electricity procurement for the balancing group to accommodate deviations in household consumption behaviour from standard load profiles. Additionally, he handles compensation for grid losses occurring during electricity transmission, which often leads to significant energy demands.
The challenge
E.DIS had successfully managed its energy procurement via email for years. However, during the peak of the energy price crisis in 2023, the company noticed a significant decline in the number of trading partners. Following a recommendation from a customer, E.DIS decided to explore the enmacc OTC energy trading platform.
“The market coverage impressed us. Many of our existing power suppliers were already active on the enmacc market venue,” says Silbe.

``Now that we trade on enmacc, we are far more visible in the market as an energy buyer. The simple Request-for-Quotation process has lowered entry barriers for suppliers.``
Energy procurement on enmacc
Since November 2023, E.DIS has been successfully trading baseload yearly and quarterly products in the 50 Hertz control area on the enmacc platform.
“Today, we have significantly more quoters on average and receive better prices. Previously, suppliers had to actively visit our website to find bid deadlines and then email us their offer prices, which discouraged some trading partners. Now that we trade on enmacc, we are far more visible in the market as an energy buyer. The simple Request-for-Quotation process has lowered entry barriers for suppliers. Additionally, the platform’s list function helped us discover new trading partners. The increased competition has led to more attractive pricing,” explains Silbe.
A positive Return on Investment
A comparison between enmacc’s platform and E.DIS’s previous, manual tendering process revealed a clear positive return on investment. “The fees per traded megawatt-hour are quickly recovered. We believe that we recouped the annual costs for enmacc after just four months,” Silbe notes.
