Sunnic Lighthouse unlocks tailored hedging strategies for renewables on enmacc

About Sunnic Lighthouse
Sunnic Lighthouse has been active in the German energy market since 2012 and offers tailor-made services from a single source – from direct marketing and electricity supply to trading.
The company specialises in the direct marketing of green electricity, mainly from German photovoltaic and wind power plants.

With a trading portfolio of over 4,800 MW of installed plant capacity, Sunnic Lighthouse is one of the largest direct marketers in Germany. The company has extensive experience in concluding PPAs and has already concluded more than 2 GW of long-term electricity supply contracts.

Their challenge
The main goal is to secure and increase the value of the green electricity portfolio. However, this proves difficult on conventional wholesale platforms, as standardised products and fixed delivery periods only partially align with the generation profiles of renewable energy sources.

This lack of flexibility is particularly problematic when hedging specific quarter-hour or hourly profiles that match the production times, which is especially typical for renewables like solar energy.

In addition, the limited product offering made it harder to connect with trading partners with similar interests, hindering the implementation of a tailored trading and risk strategy.

Flexible trading on enmacc

“enmacc offers the opportunity to trade products, sizes, and delivery periods that our wholesale platforms don't offer due to their high level of standardisation.”

“We especially benefit from being able to hedge hourly profiles that align more closely with our generation times than standard trading products, which helps us reduce our risk.”

The flexibility of the enmacc market venue helps Sunnic to align trading transactions more precisely with its renewable production times. This has not only improved the hedging strategy, but also optimised the risk management of the electricity portfolio. “In addition, the wide range of products makes it easier to find trading partners with similar interests,” adds Trachsel.

For green markets
“We also value the very open exchange with enmacc’s product development team, which gives us the opportunity to help expand their product range and tailor it to the needs of renewable energy operators like us. In other words, to shape the energy transition.”
